Steven Gerali

Gerali holds two doctorates (D.Phil.; DLitt) from Oxford Graduate School, U.S.A. in Religion & Societal Studies/Counseling Psychology and his Masters degree (M.Ed.) in Counseling Psychology with specialties in Adolescent Development & Disorders from Loyola University, Chicago. Dr. Gerali also did post-doctoral work in Sexuality/Sexual development and dysfunctions at Loyola Stritch Medical Center, Chicago. He formerly served as the Chair of the Department of Youth Ministries/Adolescent Studies at Judson College in Elgin, IL.; Founder & Director of the International Center for Youth Ministry (ICMA), Elgin, IL.; and as the Director of Graduate Studies in Youth Ministry at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Lombard IL. Most recently he served as Professor of Youth Ministry/Practical Theology and Director of the undergraduate degree program in Youth Ministry at Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA.

Steve has been published many times, his latest books include The Struggle (2001); How to Stay Christian in High School (2004) and his newest book, Teenage Guys: Exploring the Issues that Teenage Guys Face and the Strategies to Help Them, (2006). He also wrote a regular column in Youthworker Journal entitled Renovatus. Dr. Gerali has conducted continuing education seminars at and workshops for organizations such as The International Center for Learning (ICL); Youth for Christ, International; Compassion International; Urban Youth Worker Institute (UYWI); the U.S. Military, professional Sports & Athletic organizations and Youth Specialties. Steve serves as a lecturer in Youth Ministry for 6 North American Colleges and Seminaries and has trained youth workers and/or worked with students in 18 countries. His wit, understanding of teenagers and culture have positioned “Dr. G” or “Doc” (as many of his students refer to him) to speak to High School and Junior High students, as well as youth workers and parents, world-wide.

Prior to his work in academia Steve served for over 25 years as Pastor of Student Ministries in various churches including Calvary Memorial Church, Oak Park, IL.; Trinity Bible Church, Phoenix, AZ.; and, Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington, IL.

Steve and his wife Jan live in Southern California and are now “empty nesters”. Their oldest daughter Andrea and her husband Matt as well as their youngest daughter, Alison all reside nearby in Southern California.
