When I first began teaching a junior high Sunday school class in inner-city Los Angeles, I figured that God's Word was so powerful and my love for it so great that the students could not resist it. Yet they did resist—with paper airplanes and crude jokes. The problem was me, right? So I prayed for them, joked with them, visited them in their homes.
