Take a balanced look at the means and barriers of living a directed life, and learn to delve into the Word, fellowship, pastoral guidance, and interaction with God.
Spiritually dry times occur for a reason: They give us a thirst for the living water that only God can provide and allow us to experience the futility of losing our soul to this world, so that we will get serious about keeping it to life eternal.
Rediscover life in the kingdom of God as practiced by saints and martyrs, prophets and psalmists. The paths they walked are for the weary and worn-out, the bruised and battered, the disillusioned and despairing, the hurting and the hopeless.

Soul Keeping by Howard Baker
This book caught my eye when I noticed that it was highly recommended by Brennan Manning. Our society appears to have forgotten that we have souls that need tending. We (in particular Christians!) run about to serve our God and yet often come to a place where our souls are depleted. We then wonder what is wrong with us. We "plateau" in our growth. This book spells out the importance of investing in the 'inner man' and gives helpful suggestions on how to replenish our souls.
