All good books with good intentions...but...

I was struggling majorly in 8th grade. I felt like my life couldn't get any better...like I was a terrible person and daughter who could not do anything right. I had felt like that from about the age of 12 and by then I was looking for a way out, a way to escape. My mom had bought the color series for me for Christmas and I was totally pumped to read them. However, when I got to the color me scarred book...I actually took that story as an idea. I thought "maybe I should try cutting, and maybe it would help:' So, before long i was cutting and I couldn't stop. I did it every day multiple times a day. I have now graduated from high school and I no longer cut, but it is something I have struggled with for years and continue to flee from every day. I am by NO MEANS blaming this book for what i CHOSE to do...but I am saying that we should be careful what we let out young adults read. I had no idea what cutting was until this book, and the book gave me basically step by step instructions on how to do it and how to hide it...although indirectly. I think, for a mature adult these books are perfect...but I think that preteens and teens can be more vulnerable to them. Other than that, I have always loved Melody Carlson, and I still do. I have read many of her books and each can be very beautiful and life changing in a positive way. I love you Melody Carlson! I really do.

:]

the only thing i don't like about these books is that after you read a couple it gets kind of old how they all end the same. they all end up with the person finding their love in god and becoming christian and everything just gets all better and it ends there. i like a happy ending, but a bit of a change would be nice? it justs stops being very convincing after a while. other than that though, the series is really good. me and all my friends agree.

Not ONLY for Christians

Although Melody Carlson wrote these books for Christian Teenagers they don't have to be preachy towards you who aren't. For you who aren't Christians, it can just be a "good book" to read. But for those of us who are Christians we are going to take this gift that has been given to this wonderful author by our God and use these lessons to overcome these challenges that us as Christians face every day of our lives. Thank you Melody and God Bless!

My Review

I can totally relate to Ruth about the cutting thing. It makes me feel bad, to think of my mom and how it makes her feel when I do this to myself. I don't know if she understands completely why I do this, but I'm going to try and get help through counciling. I hope that the rest of you who are in this situation do the same. God Bless. :)

Hey!

I know that it's hard Amy, but hang in there.;) That's why I'm getting counciling.

I know.

Right now for school I'm writing an essay about this book. It makes me remember the past 3 years, for I now am an ex cutter, but lately I've been wanting to go back for a sudden relief. Relating to Ruth was definitely an easy task, for I know how it feels to be yelled at for no reason by the dad. It's definitely nothing pleasant. I loved this book though. It's helped my best friend, and I really thank my mom for buying it for me. I must admit, I too cried reading it.

My viewpoint

After reading this book I learned that, just because I am in the act of this it does not mean that I have the disease, the causes girls like Ruth to go into a therapy place. Girls like Ruth who have the disease feel immediate relief after inflicting pain upon themselves. For me that was not so. This book has taught me the difference.

incredible!

I read this book and it pretty much brought tears to my eyes! It really portrays the emotions I feel when I cut so real! I have been cutting for 3 months now and this book is starting to help me build up some courage to go to my youth pastor for help.

It was ok

It was good, but i didn't like the part when ruth is at that place to get help. the girls didn't seem to get much help. They were smoking outside?!? And when the head lady told ruth that she was "sick". she wasn't. she was emoitionly hurt. she didn't have a "sickness". and i have read alot about cutters, and it sounds like they really DON'T want to stop [cutting]. the other books are GREAT!!!

Brings Hope

I read Blade Silver when I myself was battling my addiction to cutting. I really related to the girl in the book with both the family situation and the addiction to cutting. This book gave me hope that I would be able to overcome the torment of cutting with the help of professionals and God. After reading this book I had the courage to tell my family about my cutting and finally get some help.

Good Book!

I also dont ever read much, i can't remember the last time i finished a book straight through but with being a cutter for over 4 years i was drawn immediately to the title. I really enjoyed this book and it gives hope, it also explains what feelings we feel when we do cut. Like i said, GOOD BOOK.

My Favorite

This is my favorite book of the TRUECOLOR series. It just really speaks out to me. It deals with verbal abuse and cutting and those (cutting especially) are really big and major problems today. It really just gives out a big Christian testimony and I loved that.
