God is for Great Sex in Marriage!
Intimacy Ignited used God’s Word to drive it and not just as a supplement to the authors’ thoughts and insights. As said in Psalm 18:30 that the Word of God is flawless, which we stand by through and through. And the Bible sure did not leave the marriage life for couples boring. In fact, it is ought to be the exact opposite, as reinforced right from the pages of Bible, no less. Simply put – God is for great sex life in marriage!
More than the book’s title, “Intimacy Ignited” suggests, I believe that its impact is more than just to ignite intimacy in your marriage. But it also specifically tells of what God has intended sex to be through the book of Song of Solomon. I highly recommend this book to all married couples, regardless of the number of years you have been together. This might just be the one thing that you’ve been missing out on in your marriage.

Recommended Reading for All Married Couples
Some of you may be familiar with Linda Dillow and Lorraine Pintus and/or their book, Intimate Issues, which addresses questions Christian women ask about sexuality. Well, they have teamed up with their husbands here to write a new book, Intimacy Ignited, for Christian couples. It is excellent.
Unlike some other books, this is not about the “mechanics” of intercourse; rather, it’s essentially about the relationship - the intimacy – of a Christian couple’s sex life. Rooted in the Song of Solomon, the book explores a variety of tools and methods for increasing the passion and intimacy of the reader’s marriage.
This is a tricky topic to write about well, but I believe the authors have succeeded. They are not at all prudish – there’s definitely some spice here! – but, at the same time, they are respectful and not crude. Just enough specifics are offered to be practically useful, without offering more information than is needed. And when examples are given that would be otherwise awkward or inappropriate, they’re left anonymous.
The authors are also sensitive to issues such as past abuse. They gently encourage moving beyond these things to fully appreciate the healthy relationships readers are in now. However, they do not downplay the difficulty of doing so, or the magnitude of the hurt caused by the past.
As readers, we are encouraged to build up our spouses and soothe their insecurities, to try new things, and to be a source of refuge for our mates. We’re urged to put away petty irritations, to be romantic, and to fully surrender ownership of our physical bodies. We’re prompted to banish selfishness, hang-ups, and baggage from past experience.
Although centered in the bedroom, this book is much, much more than that. It really encompasses the total relationship of a married couple. I believe that newlyweds can greatly benefit from it, but fifty-year-marrieds can probably find something of value, as well. This would make a great wedding gift! I highly recommend it.

Good, but not what I expected
I got this book thinking it would be a great aid to studying the Song of Solomon. I now understand the intent of the book was more designed to examine sexual issues between husbands and wives using the Song of Solomon as a launching pad for discussion. My understanding of the Song of Solomon has shifted over the years and I have come to a different historical perspective on the Song of Solomon which makes my view of the book come in conflict with some of the authors’ interpretation and main points. None-the-less I still see how this book has some value for couples who may be looking for some insight into how God designed sex for marriage.
The authors do a great job of illustrating their perspective of the text and relating it to issues faced by husbands and wives today. Much of the insight and perspective shared on sex inside the book are not new. The book does a great job of illustrating the perspective of husbands and wives and how to navigate some of the more difficult issues. Over all Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple: Fire Up Your Sex Life with the Song of Solomon is a good book filled with great perspective and counsel for couples on sexual issues. However I would offer one word of caution… If you are not married, don’t read the book…. It really is written for married couples.

Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple To Couple
NavPress has done it again. They’ve published a great book dealing with intimacy within a marriage. It’s called Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple To Couple, and it is an extraordinary resource for newly married couples, as well as couples that have been married for a while.
Intimacy Ignited is a journey through the Song of Solomon, allowing this book of Scripture to teach us about marriage. And it offers plenty of wise, biblical advice and practical suggestions to become a “Servant Lover.”
Written by two couples, Joseph and Linda Dillow, and Peter and Lorraine Pintus, this book is a conversation between the authors and the couple who read it. And they do a great job of communicating truths from Scripture to their readers.
Each of the sixteen chapters covers a specific section of the Song. Within each chapter, the first few pages are very similar to a Bible commentary, explaining the passage and what it communicates. After that, the authors dig into the practical applications of the passage, first to the couple, then to wives and husbands specifically.
It has opened my eyes to the Song of Solomon like never before. The thought that Solomon put into this as he wrote is extraordinary, definitely God-inspired.
In fact, the authors put it this way:
Solomon, write a real-life drama that captures the passion, adventure, and mystery of marriage, but do not ignore the problems of daily life. Be frank and precise when speaking of sexual intimacy, but write in such a way that if a child reads the words, his or her innocence remains intact. Regarding sexual activity, be specific enough to be helpful, but sensitive enough not to offend. Be spiritual, yet practical; wholesome, yet sensuous. And do it all in one hundred twenty verses or less.”
I’m pretty sure Solomon achieved these goals. And Intimacy Ignited does a great job of exploring and explaining the poetic imagery of this ancient Song to readers in the twenty-first century.
This is an exceptional book, and can be a tremendous resource for any married couple.

Intimacy Ignited by Dillow and Pintus
Let’s just get this out in the open right up front. This book is about sex. We all know that in Christian circles the word intimacy is the code word for sex. Now that we have taken care of that, let’s talk about Intimacy Ignited.
This is not a new book, but it is a good book. The authors walk us through the Bible book of Song of Solomon and examine the marital relationship of King Solomon and his bride. Through the years there have been a number of ways to interpret Song of Solomon. The authors choose the most literal interpretation. And it is literal. It would be easy, in an effort to be sensitive regarding a delicate topic, to not be descriptive enough. It would also be easy to go too far, to veer off into sensationalism. The authors do a fantastic job of balancing the two extremes. They make it very clear what they mean to say without resorting to crudeness or inappropriate language.
One great benefit of this book is the included eight week Bible study guide at the back of the book. It is well written and has a component that is appropriate for group discussion and a component for the individual couples.

If you are married, you need to read this book!
I recently had the chance to review this book and was intrigued from the moment I read the cover. The book is called Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple. And the heading on the cover says "Fire up your sex life with the Song of Solomon". With all that, I had high expectations for this book, and I was not disappointed.
This book does a couple of things. First of all, it's a verse-by-verse walk through the Song of Solomon. The authors go deeply into what the meaning of the words are- explaining the poetry of the Song to us. They also spend time explaining how some words may have double meanings and the cultural references that don't make sense to us. I'm sure we've all read the Song of Solomon before, but there's a lot in that book of the Bible that I never understood.
Secondly, Intimacy Ignited uses the Song of Solomon to show us what God's view of sex really is (book spoiler- he's all for a great sex life in marriage!). I really appreciated this, because I think sex has been a topic of much misunderstanding in churches for a number of years. Books like Intimacy Ignited help us realize why God gave us the incredible blessing of sex, and appreciate it as such. As this book reminds us over and over, sex in marriage doesn't have to be something boring or routine!
Thirdly, this book offers advice on how to shift from being selfish lovers to being servant lovers. It also challenges us to really take on the 16 traits of the servant lover, and offers suggestions on how to do so. Some of the challenges and suggestions directly deal with a couple's sex life, and others are more basic marriage builders.
I really liked how this book is laid out. The chapters are easy to follow, but full of a lot of information and advice. Many chapters have subsections specifically directed to the husband or wife as well as to the couple together, ways to apply the Song of Solomon in your marriage. There's also an 8-week couples Bible study at the end of the book, with study questions and application exercises.
This book is one that I would highly recommend for any married couple, newlywed or married for many decades.

Intimacy Ignited by Dr Joseph & Linda Dillow and Dr Peter & Lorraine Pintus
In one word: wow.
In several words: The Dillows and Pintuses walk through the Song of Songs, taking God’s Word and applying it practically to marriage.
The attitude in the book is best summed up in the authors’ own words: ‘we wanted God’s Word to drive this book’, and it does – every chapter begins with a verse-by-verse commentary, followed by insanely practical application.
The book is very easy to read, Bible-based, and scarily easy to implement. Many examples are provided to explain the concepts presented in each chapter and to inspire the reader’s creativity, and it works!
To make it even easier to apply, an eight-week Bible study to be carried out as a couple or as a group of couples is included, with extensive notes and phenomenal ideas.
Married couples – do you want to ignite a passionate flame and keep it burning until the day you die? Regardless of the situation your marriage is experiencing, this book will put you on that path!

Intimacy Ignited Review
Intimacy Ignited contains a verse-by-verse study of Song of Solomon. The object of the book is to help couples learn from the Scripture how to apply what is within to their relationship. Another interesting feature is that at the end of each chapter there is a short prayer the couple or person reading the book can say.
Once finished with the book there is a section in the back that will take the couple on a thirty day Bible study if they desire a deeper understanding of how they can grow in there relationship with Christ and one another. Overall it keeps with the Biblical text while accurately portraying how one should live with a servant’s heart.
I found the book to be a very easy read. It was not too difficult to understand and it presented the Song of Solomon in a godly manner and with respect to the cultural context itself. I felt it effectively was able to show how in Christ couples should act toward one another. In so far as that it is a book for couples, I would not suggest it for those who are young or not yet to be engaged. Though I would love to see a book as such as Intimacy Ignited for those who have yet to be married.
