Divinely Inspired!

Eugene Peterson, all I can say is THANK YOU!'The Message' has fulfilled in my life the exact purpose for which you wrote it!Your version has completely revolutionized my understanding of God.I especially love the introductions to the books-they really help me focus in a fresh way.You and/or Navpress reveal a rare element of integrity by posting negative reviews-they speak for themselves.God's Word alone is a sword sharp enough...I also love all of Peterson's other books!May God continue to bless all you set your mind, heart, hand, and spirit to!

Unbelievable

"The Message" by Eugene Peterson is by far the most vulgar, disagreeable, inharmonious, and inarticulate version of anything possibly alleging to contain biblical scripture. Its claims are at best repulsive, inelegant and indifferent to the specificity, accuracy and holiness claimed in actual scripture that lays claim as God's unending and Holy Gospel. At worst an literary achievement of loathsome and repugnant apathy masquerading as an equivalent of equal measure.

Msg Remix/Pause

I have never been a daily routine reader, that is, until last year when I read Solo. God changed my life through it. This year I was thrilled to discover Pause!! I've been savoring each day. The old & New Testament parallels have me discovering new insights. I especially like the way the message is so easy to read. I notice big picture concepts more and see God's story and our human history as a whole rather than chopped up parts. Thank you very much Mr. Peterson and Navpress.

A breath of fresh air

After being born in a christian household, raised in christian schools, attending church every week, diving into the Bible for my own study time and walk with God, and starting seminary, one can easily get lost in the "study" of the Bible. Eugene's rendition breaks that habit, and quickly awakens the reader to God and His message. The impact of the Bible can be so easily lost, yet in The Message, its power and depth are again easy to see. Excellent work!

the Message helped me

I endeavored to read the Bible, cover to cover, and I succeeded. It took me three years and three weeks. Most of the time I read the New International Version. But for some parts - especially Job and Psalms - it was helpful to have the Message to turn to, and it kept me focused, and was refreshing.I'm so glad to have had it there alongside my NIV.

MSG is a positive thing

I think many people are turned off by the language of many versions of the Bible and feel that it isn't accessible...that a clergy member needs to explain it to them. The Message offers God's Word in a language that we use today. After all, the Bible was translated from its original Greek into Latin and then English so people then could understand it in their own language. What is wrong with reading the Bible in OUR own language.

My Opinion of the MSG

My Opinion on the MSG This version definitely falls on the farthest end of the Bible version spectrum - an all out paraphrase, not even a paraphrase but Eugene's opinion. A Bible you can't be too quick to put down and stop reading, but a mind-drawing sarcastic retelling of the Holy Bible - God's Words to Mortal man.

Message Remix Pause

Excellent daily reading Bible. Great format. Good parallel readings from old and new testaments. Useful introductions to Bible books and practical questions for meditation.
