Looks interesting despite Lordship salvation
After reading the complimentary first chapter, I'd like to continue with Hull's manual for discipleship. He seems like a guy who's walked the walk.
Still, despite his understanding of the biblical difference between believing in Jesus for the gift of eternal life (John 3:16; 5:24; 6:47) and the call to follow Christ in discipleship (Luke 14:26,27.33) Hull writes of his distaste for this view (p. 32-33). Though we would all like believers to become disciples, the fact remains that Jesus Himself made a distinction between the two.
Hull understands the truth of varied spiritual maturity levels in the lives of Christians (p. 33), but when he writes that "believing without discipleship isn't believing" (p. 43) Hull inadvertently crosses the line from "by grace through faith" to "by grace through faith plus works."
I share Hull's sorrow for believers who do not follow Christ's call to discipleship, and I agree with him that Christ's goal wasn't to make believers but rather disciples. I want to read his book to get as much wisdom from him as possible, since it seems he's clearly been making disciples for some time. My only reservation, though, is his willingness to follow Bonhoeffer's influence in blending faith with works in the hopes of a more pleasant product.

This is a "Must Have" book on Discipleship
I am reading it for the second time and this time my wife(has her own copy)and I are discussing it topic after topic. I will be requiring it for all our Key Couples. On Staff with...The Navigators

A must read!
An excellent summary of the integration of the Navigator's style of discipleship I grew up with, blended with 1000's of years of faithful saints in history who practiced discipleship, and an accurate critique of the modern church which has dangerously drifted away from disciple-making as its primary call and practice.
Short, easy-to-access chapters bring a wealth of information on discipleship to the fingertips of both the local pastor and the lay leader. Comprehensive and practical, this book can rightly be called "complete". It serves as both a resource manual and a devotional guide. But most importantly, it's the kind of book that can challenge and stretch a Christian leader perspective on ministry from program-centered and pastor-centered efforts, to presence-based ministry that centers on becoming like Jesus. (cf. Terry Teykl's book: The Presence Based Church)
Good appendices are included which can help a church diagnose its current struggles with becoming a disciple-making church.
