Everything You Need to Know Before College
Entering college can be both a fantastic and frightening experience. Matthew Paul Turner’s Everything You Need to know Before College uses a Christian perspective to show students what to expect during this life-changing journey. Class registration, dating, health, extracurricular activities, budgeting, volunteering, safety, time management and a multitude of other topics are all addressed in this book. Turner interlaces his serious information with humorous tidbits, irrelevant ramblings, and even silly poems.
Having already graduated from college, I can honestly say Turner’s book accurately reflects my own college experience. As Turner explains, it is sometimes difficult to strike a balance between fun time and studying—too much of either can make college unbearable. The book also explores some of the important things that college students may not consider first off. For example, the importance of buying flip flops to wear in communal showers and journaling on a regular basis.
In addition to being informative, Turner is truly funny in an odd and random way. For example, during one of his concluding lists of important points from the chapter, Turner decides to throw in one completely off topic point for humor: “Watch My Name is Earl on NBC.” This has absolutely nothing to do with the chapter on wellness, but it makes for a random chuckle. Everything you Need to Know Before College is a entertaining enough to keep the attention of a high school senior or college freshman and would make a great graduation gift.

Great Gift Book for new HS Grads!
Yes, I’ve got a Bachelor’s degree. Yes, I have a Master’s degree. No, I’m not planning to go back to college for any degree or undercover for the FBI (although I would be open to that … college was awesome).
But I do work with a lot of college students, and high school students who are about to go to college. And I did go to college once, so this book intrigued me.
It’s called “A student’s survival guide,” and I would say that it is just what it claims to be. Everything You Need to Know Before College by Matthew Paul Turner actually lives up to its title.
Turner makes an attempt to truly cover everything a young person would need to know before going to college. From spirituality to laundry, Turner goes as far as putting a packing checklist in the back of the book.
Although many of the spiritual and sexual issues addressed in the book (including checking to see if your college allows birth control) apply only to conservative religious institutions, Turner does not confine his material to “Being a Christian in College” as I had expected. Although he does address spirituality, it is neither preachy nor proselytizing and really does allow the reader to make his or her own path as they enter academia and dorm life.
I would highly recommend this as a gift book for a high school graduate or new college freshman at any university.

Everything You Will Need To Know Before College"
The one thing you may want to purchase before heading off to college, is the book “Everything You Need To Know Before College”. The author, Matthew Paul Turner, did a very nice job with outlining the book. He discusses things with students such as: “Getting Ready”, “Relationships”, “Lifestyle”, “Education”, and many more great topics of interest!
This book is great in the fact that it is packed full of useful and insightful information in it for both future and even present students to use. I loved how in each chapter he included the Word of God; applying our number one handbook in life, to this pratical little college handbook, was an awesome idea! This gives the student inspiration for whatever the topic might be, that they are reading about in the book. I truly enjoyed the humor thrown in by the author, which was a great way to relate to young people! This book would even be great for parents to read, before their children go off to college. It is fun, humorous, and inspiring yet it also has so much information, that you don’t want to miss reading this one!

Entertaining read to prepare yourself.
Well I graduate in May and wanted to mentally prepare myself for college... so looking around for something I found this book. It is a really fun read that makes you understand how college differs from highschool. The book shows what to be ready for as far as academic and social settings. Along with practical things to be ready for like managing money, what type of groups on campus to join, how to make smart dating choices, and even what you need to pack.
