Cute and Refreshing. Ready to read the others.
Hollywood Nobody, a surprisingly refreshing read that is obviously targeted for young adult readers, but enjoyable still for folks my age (undisclosed :). Written in blogging style, which I find cute, Scotty , a 15 year old girl, shares with readers her account of life and the strange things in it, especially her own.....which you will find is quite different from the average teenager. Scotty keeps a blog about Hollywood and in it you'll find some funny inserts of her thoughts on some real celebrities. She and her Mother, Charly travel around from movie set to movie set for Charly's job as a food stylist. Throughout the book, and their travels, there is an unknown person that they seem to be running/hiding from that kept me reading because I wanted to know what the underlying story was to that. Towards the end of the book there is an unexpected reveal that put a lump in my throat. I wasn't expecting it, but you'll have to read it to see. Overall, I enjoyed this book, even though it is geared more towards younger audiences, and I would recommend it for any teenage girl, or parent wanting a clean and enjoyable book for their teen. Great teen girl fiction!
The first book in a series, "Hollywood Nobody," by Lisa Samson seems like a winner for young adult fiction!
Scotty Dawn is a fifteen year-old girl that teenage girls would be able to relate to, not exactly her lifestyle, but who she is. Scotty travels with her mom, Charley from movie set to movie set as her mom's job. While Scotty enjoys her life and her interactions with actors and actresses in Hollywood, she does not really know who she is and who they have been running from. Scotty documents her life on her blog that is becoming increasingly popular and allows Scotty to vent and process events in her life.
This is a fun read! While reading it appears as if Scotty is actually writing the novel as it sounds just like a teenage girl. The blog posts and comments are fun to read as they are interspersed throughout the book. This is a great series for teenage girls as it is positive, realistic and can be related to!

I can't wait for the next one!
Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson, is a charming, quirky book for teens about a fifteen-year-old girl, Scotty Dawn, on the road with her mom and searching for love, understanding of life, and possibly even a relationship with God. Scotty's mom is a movie set food designer who constantly drags Scotty across the country and seems to be keeping a number of deep dark secrets. Scotty, a driven, self-confident, and hilariously funny teenager, begins an anonymous blog to help deal with her confusion over her mom, and the interesting and unique challenges of being a movie set kid. As Scotty learns about relationships, life, and discovers the truth about her family, she also begins a tentative search for an understanding of, and a relationship with, God.
Although this book is obviously geared towards young teens, I enjoyed reading it a great deal. Scotty is an extremely lovable character, and it was easy to get drawn into the complexities of her emotions and difficulties, both as a regular teenager and as a young woman with a dark mystery shadowing her every move. Samson does an amazing job grabbing and holding the reader's attention, and the pace of the book moves quickly without becoming overwhelming or confusing. Backed by NavPress publishers, the book is obviously spiritually motivated and based in the Christian faith, but Samson allows the story to shine on its own without attempting to force a Christian message into every page. I will say that there were times when the subtle plot line of Scotty's search for God was included a bit awkwardly into the story, almost as though the author would get lost in the original plot and then would force a religious reference into a line here or there to stay on track. But all in all, I thought Hollywood Nobody was an amazing book. I would recommend it to any parent for their young teen reader as a way to promote a Christian message, reaffirm the importance of self confidence and self discovery, and to simply give your kids a chance to read a great book!

Great Fiction!
This is an interesting somewhat amusing read about a fifteen year old *nobody* in the fast, sometimes unrealistic, world of Hollywood.
Scotty is one of those teen girls who is mature but there is a child in her heart.of.hearts. Scotty, like a lot of teen girls, feels like no one truly "sees" her. She begins to blog. And does a great job of blogging and her blog becomes famous, almost overnight! Probably because she sees life with her heart and writes what she feels and sees in the most honest way....truthfully!
Scotty is a likable girl. She moves to the Hollywood set with her mom, Charley, and can't figure out why they are running from a mysterious man her mom won't talk about.
Scotty meets her Grampie and Grammie. By meeting them she also meets Jesus through them. Scotty had never really heard about sin and how Jesus died for mankind. Her wonderful grandparents help her to see beyond the Hollywood glitz and glitter to the real point of life...a relationship with Jesus.
Real life Hollywood people are the characters in this read. So, as one reads this story it is very realistic and makes one feel like Scotty is your friend and you're simply reading her blog entries.
This is a YA book but I truly enjoyed getting to know Scotty. Of course, I loved that she is a blogger! Bloggers *rock*!
Lisa Samson has written a 5 star read for young adults but this is also an enjoyable read for adults of all ages.

Total Page Turner
I am so in love with this book and am so glad it’s the first book in a series. Books normally take me 2 weeks to read because of my reading problems. This book took me 4 days. I would stay up til 1 or 2 in the morning reading. I was just so into the story I didn’t want to put it down.
Scotty is your not so average teenage girl. She travels around in a RV named the “Y” with her mother. Her mother is a food designer for movies and magazines but mainly movies and mainly movies with a director named Jeremy. Scotty doesn’t like her living arrangements but tries to make the best of them. She homeschools herself using the people and places around her as her assignments. She also runs an anonymous blog called “Hollywood Nobody”. This blog is there she rants or raves about different celebrities and also gives the inside scoop on each movie set she is on. Scotty also has a journal she writes in to share her frustrations, dreams and fear. She calls the journal Elaine.
While on this current movie set she makes so really great friends, Joy and Seth. She also meets up with a few other friends she’s made along her journeys. While on this location she finds out there is a Tent Revival that will be going on. She doesn’t know much about religious things but decides to do some research and attend a meeting or two. Although in this book she does not accept Christ into her life, she does get closer to understanding Him and even has a Bible now.
The book ends with a HUGE curve ball that I don’t want to post here as to not give away what happens. I totally recommend to finding this book and reading it.
I’m excited to pick up a copy of the next book and find out what will happen next in Scotty’s life, what adventures she will have next. This book was definitely a page turner. I totally recommend this book to readers ages 14+.

Promising series
Scotty is a fifteen year old girl who lives in an RV and travels from one movie location to the next, meeting
celebs is a normal thing, and while this life is something alot of people her age might love, not Scotty. She would rather live a normal life with a house and yard, and go to regular school, instead of homeschooling herself. Her outlet has always been writing in her diary, but when she decides to start a blog called Hollywood Nobody, where she blogs anonymously about the stars she encounters, it becomes an overnight sensation, but there are still mysteries in her life that she longs to have an answers for, like knowing who her dad is, and why they have to move around all the time.
The story drew me in immediately, I liked the way that it was written, part blog, part diary entries, and first person perspective, jumping back and forth really made it interesting. Scotty was a very mature for her age and was so easy to like, she often seemed more mature than her mother. The author throws in a bit of mystery at the end that left me wanting to read the next book in the series.
"Hollywood Nobody" is a quick read that has wonderful but quirky characters peppered with humor and a bit of mystery, with a dash of religion sprinkled in, making it a great read for anyone from teens to adults.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I'm hooked!
I usually don’t like to start a review with the bad part of the book, but here it goes. The worst part was that I couldn’t put it down. Literally! I was unable to sleep last night, so at 1am I started reading. I didn’t go to sleep after 4am when I finally finished the book. I read it in one sitting, that’s how good the book was.
The way the book was written was very interesting. It was part blog, part diary, and part live action.
Scotty Dawn has lived her life on the road with her mom. They travel from movie location to movie location in their old beat up RV. The little human contact she has comes from internet, CB radio, and on the set. She has never had the time to make friends her own age.
As most normal teenage girls, Scotty writes her pains and joys in her diary. However, at this newest location, she decides to start a blog. This blog is going to dish on all the juicy gossip she picks up on the sets. She calls herself Hollywood Nobody because even though she is around all these famous people, she is just a speck in the background.
Things start getting weirder then normal. Charlley is looking much more scared then usual. Scotty couldn’t help but to start asking questions. Did she really want the answers to those questions though.
Being on the road as much as she was, Scotty never had the opportunity to learn about Jesus or God. As they are entering town, she notices a sign for a tent revival and decides to go. It’s interesting to hear her views on the tent revival. Especially since she has had no connection with any Church.
This book is written towards the YA crowd, but I feel it is one of those that can be read and enjoyed by any age. There are several in this series. This was book one. One thing I like about the book, is that it answered enough questions that you feel satisfied , but left some unanswered that you still want more.

Hollywood Nobody
Most of you who read my blog know that I love reading young adult books. Even though I'm almost 30, I'm still a kid at heart. :) That said, reading this particular book just made me feel old. I know all the young people reading this are thinking, "Well, you are!" ;)
It wasn't my favorite YA book I've read, but it was cute. I like that Samson created such a unique character out of Scotty. It was fun reading about her obsession with cheese and having to be sneaky to eat it around her vegan mother. In many ways this seemed like a book most appropriate for the tween age group, even though the main character is almost 16. BUT, in other ways it seemed a little too old for that age group. There's mention of some of the characters doing drugs and sleeping around. The main character does not approve of this behavior, though.
There's also a bit of a mystery that develops more towards the end. I anticipate there to be lots more to come about this mystery in the following books in this series. Overall, it was cute, but I think whether or not you like it will depend on how mature you like your books.(And I don't mean adult content mature)

"ONE OF A KIND"
What attracts you most about a book? For me it definitely the cover, the first thing I noticed about the cover of this book was the girl's cat glasses and the scooter. Who wears cat glasses now a days? Scotty Dawn does! She is fifteen, LOVES cheese, and is home schooled. She lives with Charley her vegan mom in an RV nicknamed the Y. Charley is a food stylist for low-budget films,so they travel a lot. Scotty starts a blog called "Hollywood Nobody" were she writes about all the latest new in hollywood. Because of Scotty's life on the road she doesn't have many friends, Charley is very secretive and they are always running, always hiding from someone, but who? She isn't even allowed to give out her phone number and they never ever pay with something the can be traced back to. So who are they running from? When she goes looking for answers to all her questions, some may be to hard for her to handle. What will happen??
I give this book four stars. The story was very original and unique, and I just loved the way it was written. For a fun and quick read I definitly do recommend it.

Deep End of the Pool
Did you ever think that raising children is like swimming in the deep end of the pool? Well it is a way I sorta look at things. I am talking about boundaries here. Kids will say they do not want rules but they do. Honestly! For without them they are swimming in the deep end of the pool. And they did not even know how they made it that far out.
Let me explain. When a child is learning to swim they step out a lil at a time testing the depth with their toes. Bouncing up and down in the water to see if they can still touch bottom. Eventually it gets just a lil too deep and under they go. Spitting, sputtering and all wet now, the child will turn around and get back to where they are safe. They just found their boundary. Now as they learn to dog paddle and get around better they can venture out a lil more each time. But they learn that going past that rope floating in the middle of the pool is where the deep end. No matter what they do out there they will not have the safety of touching bottom. We have all see the kids float up to that rope and look longing over it, knowing one day they will be able to venture out that far.
Well if we do not show them their boundaries with rules in life. Then I feel we are just throwing them in the deep end of the pool. That sink or swim mentality. And that is not the way to raise a child who will feel safe and secure. Of course they eventually learn how to swim. Go past the rope and even start jumping off the high dive as they become more and more accomplished. Just like life. The rules we give our kids are the testing grounds. You can go here but farther out is not safe at this time. And they test that limit. Many times as a matter of fact. Til they learn that is where it really is safe to be. In that safe area, kids can enjoy life. Play, learn and soak up all around them. This is where children are happiest at. Knowing they are loved, cared for and protected.
An example of that feeling in life is the basis of Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson. Here Scotty, a 15 year old girl, writes in her blog, Hollywood Nobody about the lack of limits in her life. And how it is illogical of her mother to let her do as she pleases while living an uncommon lifestyle. Traveling from movie site to movie site with her mother's job, Scotty has not been given boundaries. Her mother expects her to wing it and make it safely. Well of course it does not go that way. I have to say that it was enjoyable to real this novel this last week. But I cringed at how Scotty had to fend for herself so often. She had to figure out what and who was safe. What a responsibility to put on a teens head. I loved the blogger format that was throughout the story too. (Of course!) A good Young Adult read. This is the first book of four where you can follow Scotty through her travels and as she grows up.

I'm Just Sayin
Today’s Rave: “Hey all you Nobodies out there!” If you haven’t read Hollywood Nobody then you make the grade for a definite Nobody. Cause Anybody who is somebody has read this book. Oh, by the way, don’t take offense to my language in this review, I just wanted to give you a tone for the book. It is one great book about a 15 year old girl named Scotty Dawn. Scotty travels from movie site to movie site in her mom’s RV as her mom is a food stylist. Now, I am not talking about the big screen Hollywood movies but more like the low cost productions. She never really gets the chance to meet any long term friends, so she writes a blog like this on the internet for entertainment pretending to be somebody important on a Hollywood set. Scotty has a lot of time for entertaining herself and tries to use most of it wisely.
Today’s Fact: Scotty and her mom are running from some secrets that Scotty just hasn’t quite figured out. If you want the scoop, you’ll have to log on to the library or a site and order the book for yourself. Try here: http://www.navpress.com/product/9781600060915/Hollywood-Nobody-Lisa-Samson
Today’s Rant: You know there really isn’t much I can rant about today. This is the first in a series by Lisa Samson. If you don’t know who she is then go here to find out.
http://www.randomhouse.com/author/results.pperl?authorid=37144
Today’s Tidbit: The book is published by Random House for young adult readers. Scotty is not the typical teenager but she learns to cope well with the life that she leads. But remember even those who cope well can learn a thing or two.
Today’s Quote: “I am just sayin‘.” Scotty Dawn in Hollywood Nobody
Today’s Disclosure: I received this free book from NavPress Publishers as part of their blogger review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions and statements in this review are my own unless otherwise quoted as from the book.
