A Great Story about a Growing Character
"In Between" is the first of three books that tell the story of 16-year-old Katie Parker. As readers meet Katie, she is on her way to her first foster home. Her single-parent mother has been incarcerated for dealing drugs, leaving Katie a ward of the state. Katie is nervous about foster care, fearing rumors she’s heard may be true. She’s certain this will be a temporary situation, so she determines to do all she can to hurry her transition back to the Sunny Haven Home for Girls along. When Katie learns that her foster father not only works at a church, but is the senior pastor, she decides extreme measures are in order.
I loved this story and plan to read the next two. (Book One is self-contained. Readers don’t have to go on to read the next two books—I just want to.) Katie’s character is sassy and sarcastic, but not in a hurtful way. She cares about people, but she fears them, so she’s protecting herself. Gradually Katie comes to see that her perceptions of others and of God need to change, just as she longs for what she assumes are others’ perceptions of her to change, too.
Katie’s foster grandmother, Mad Maxine, is a great supporting character—along with Frances and her family, Sam, Rocky, and more. I recommend this book for teenage girls and not-so-teenage girls alike. Thank you, NavPress, for sending a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review.

Wonderful Book!
Let's start out by stating: This book is "Act 1" of the "Katie Parker Production" series. My suggestion? Buy Acts 2 and 3. Right now...before you go any further. It's OK, I'll wait right here for you! I cannot tell you enough how much I loved this book! Although it is categorized as "Teen Fiction/Contemporary", I would highly recommend this series for adults also. Jones does an excellent job of drawing the reader in and extracting a wide range of emotions from you. There are times where you will find yourself routing for Katie, cheering her on. Whether it is her wild adventures with Crazy Maxine, or her misadventures in the science lab, you will find yourself acting as her biggest cheerleader. Other times, you will need to remind yourself, she is still just a child, and she has a lot of growing up yet to do. She doesn't always make the wisest decisions, but she is trying, with little adult guidance up to this point. James and Millie Scott turn out to be great foster parents, but not what Katie was expecting. First of all, James is a pastor, and Katie's interaction with God has been very limited. Millie seems to have it all together even though she seems to be hiding a secret. Can things work out for Katie in In Between, or will she be sent packing back to Sunny Haven Home for Girls? I give this book 5 stars and would definitely allow my tween or teen to read this book! Awesome Book!
Sixteen year old Katie Parker, is being sent from the Sunny Haven Home for Girls, to yet another foster home. Katie's not sure this is a good idea. She's sure she'll be sent back to the state owned girls home before she even has a chance to feel 'at home'. She's unsure of a lot of things: her new foster parents (James & Millie Scott), her new town (In Between), her new school (In Between High - home of the Fighting Chihuahua's), her new friends (Angel, who turns out to not really be a friend, and Frances Vega, who seems to be everything that Katie is not), church and God, but most of all her new foster grandmother (Mad Maxine). Katie does fall in with some questionable kids at school, which causes some heart-ache for her. As she tries to make amends for her error, she and Frances do start hanging out together more. Katie's introduced to the church's Target Teen youth group, which while still unsure of her beliefs, she does find many of the things Youth Pastor Mike talks about hit her mind and heart...for the good. After spending more time with Mad Maxine, things really begin to change for Katie. This was my first time reading anything by Jenny B. Jones, but it will by no means be my last. Bravo, Jenny B. Jones, well done!

Had me laughing out loud.
Over the weekend I read In Between: A Katie Parker Production Act 1 by Jenny B. Jones. Katie Parker's mother got caught up with the law and was sent to prison and her dad is no where to be found, which left Katie Parker orphaned. She was quickly whisked away to a foster family, in In Between, Texas, who has more faith in her than she could ever imagine. Growing up around bad influences, Katie couldn't believe anyone would want her or anyone of her kind with the past that she had. In the book, In Between by Jenny B. Jones, we follow Katie on her adventure of finding her faith and who she really is.
This is heart-warming story. I could not put the book down and found myself laughing out loud at Katie's sense of humor. It was actually a very funny book and I just loved the cookey grandmother, Maxine. The book had laughter mixed with sadness as you see Katie face life issues. Your heart truly goes out to the family in this book that you actually feel you are emotionally connected to them. Jenny B. Jones does a great job with rendering that affect. This is the first of three books in the series of Katie's story so the book left you hanging for more, which I definitely can't wait for.
I recommend this book to any teen girls or as well as any woman out there. I really enjoyed it myself. This book definitely receives 5 stars from me!!!

Great start to Katie's story!
Jenny B. Jones has created a character that teenage girls are sure to connect with and enjoy reading about! "In Between" Act 1 in Jones' A Katie Parker Production is the first book in this series and teenagers and adults alike will get hooked on this series and want to read more!
We first meet Katie when she is being transported to a foster home by a girls' home director. Katie has just gotten settled into the group home and then she found out she was being shipped off to a foster home in In Between, Texas to live with James and Millie Scott. Katie's mother is in prison and her father is not involved, so Katie has learned to fend for herself, yet she finds herself adjusting to her "pretend" family and learning what unconditional love is, from both her foster parents and God when she finds herself getting into some trouble.
Jones' book is filled with characters that are humorous, heart-wrenching and so real. Written from Katie's perspective, this book is sure to be a winner with teenage girls. Katie may be experiencing a different life than many, but yet she still struggles with some of the same issues on top of having to live in a foster home and dealing with not being with her biological parents. This is a great start to the series and is highly recommended!

Excellent!
This is a wonderful book. Jenny B. Jones really captures life of a teenage girl in a new town. Her characters are hilarious; mad Maxine had me LOL with each appearance in the book. I highly recommend this to anyone that deals with teenagers on a regular basis.
