Great Step-by-Step Guide for Those Preparing for the Speaking Ministry
When I received this book for review from NavPress, I was pleasantly surprised and excited. The surprise was because I did not request this book but received it and the excitement because I dream of becoming a speaker one day. Carol Kent is an international public speaker and a world-reknowned author. So Speak Up with Confidence, A Step-by-Step Guide for Speakers and Leaders is such a blessing to me.
I find that this book does not disappoint when it comes to teaching us how to prepare for a talk step-by-step. The book begins with an encouragement to believe in yourself first before anything else. Believe that you have it in you to speak in front of people. Then she follows it up with the how-to’s of preparing your talk. First, it’s how to choose your topic, then set a goal, then how to collect materials, how to write your material and so on. The book is full of details and ideas on preparing for a talk, and even how to be presentable in front of a group of people. It is peppered with humorous anecdotes of her life stories which keeps the reading interesting.
What I like most about Speak Up with Confidence is the section about preparing your personal testimony. This one spoke to me personally because I feel that I have a lot to share about how the Lord works in my life, but I don’t know how and where to start. She also has a chapter on leading a Bible Study group. Having lead Bible study groups in the past, I thought that I would not need this section anymore, but surprisingly, I still learned a lot from her.
Speak Up with Confidence – A Step-by-Step Guide for Speakers and Leaders is an excellent reference book for those who want to become speakers. It is also a great guide for more material for those who are already more experienced in speaking.

Speak up with confidence
Synopsis: This book is a personal/professional development resource which cleverly highlights two key factors,or vermin if you like, limiting the goals of public speakers, teachers, and even Christians today. This include a fear for public speaking, and the lack of confidence in ourselves.
The book is authored by Carol Kent.
Carol has been there and understands the crippling effect a fear of public speaking has on its victim. Public speaking apparently ranks highest among people's fears. A lot of twinkling stars would have shone brilliantly today if only they'd dare to cease from hiding behind their shells. Moses was commissioned by God to become His publicist. He never thought he had it within him but preferred to shy off from developing the oratorical ability in him.
Obviously there is nothing more pleasing in the ears of any communicator than to receive a positive feedback as the fruit of their speech or talk. Hence the book is replete with remarkable and endearing examples of such. We needn't be a well versed orators yet we can be the best God has us to be and still accomplish a lot for Him. Only if we be and remain: ourselves!
An instance was where after one of Carol's protégé summed up courage to share her personal testimony at a luncheon, only for five of the people present to accept Christ . What confidence it boosted in the life of this protégé, and particularly so,that her own's life testimony could be a tool for evangelism!
This is a must read for anyone who seem to have lost their sparkle and confidence for communicating or reaching out

I just led worship for and attended the Speak Up conference in Portland, Oregon. I was struck by the professionalism of the Speak Up team, but I was also blessed by their genuine interest in all who attended. Some attendees had quite a bit of speaking experience and some came with a friend and had never really spoken much. The Speak Up team made all feel welcome. The curriculum was second to none and was based on serving the Lord Jesus and giving Him all the glory. I was honored to share in ministry with people who made sure every detail brought glory to the Lord God. I would recommend Speak Up to anyone who is striving to minister by speaking or writing. You will learn how to prepare and deliver effectively. I would suggest you attend the original workshops before you attend the advanced so receive all the information you need. it was a honor and a blessing to serve with such a stellar team.
