Money, Purpose, Joy
Matt Bell is a personal finance expert who is passionate about helping people manage their money and get out of debt. In Money, Purpose, Joy: The Proven Path to Uncommon Financial Success, Matt Bell helps the reader understand why we spend money the way we do and how to turn back toward God where our finances are concerned. Bell uses the prodigal son from the Bible to help us better understand what God wants for us. In this book, he really gets the reader thinking about where their money goes, which is a problem for many people. I know I have said on more than one occasion, “Where did it all go?” Money, Purpose, Joy is one of the most useful financial advice books I have seen. It is very practical and easy to follow, but the author also uses scripture to illustrate how to use our money wisely and in a Godly way. I especially like how he has the reader put everything down on paper. The Debt Organizer is going to be very useful for my husband and I as we work toward being better stewards with what God has provided us. I trust the advice Matt Bell gives and will continue to find this book very helpful.

With the recession in full swing, reading a book on financial success can be very helpful. In part one of the book Bell desires his readers to more fully understand Christ in our financial goals. We need to include Him in our financial plan. If we look to the bible and its teachings we will find many lessons on money. The first section of the book made me ponder about my Heavenly Father's desire for my financial success.
Part two of the book lets us think about where we really are financially and what really matters most. Do we want to spend time with our family or do we want to work all the time to make more money for our family. It is important for us to see what we really want from our money.
The next section of the book seemed really complicated. I knew what Bell was trying to tell us, but it was so complicated I wonder if someone who really needed this book would fully understand what he was trying to say.
In the last section of the book it became a little more clearer, although in my opinion there were too many steps. The budget guides seem to be very helpful for someone who is new to budgeting.
I am a Dave Ramsey fan, it seems Matt Bell is trying to copy Ramsey's financial plan only calling it by different names. Of course maybe this is the true secret to financial success and both men have come to their own conclusions.
I would reccommend this book to those who are needed to make a financial plan or who are in trouble with too much debt.

Helpful Financial Advice Supported By Scripture
It has been an encouragement for me to read, “Money, Purpose, Joy: The Proven Path to Uncommon Financial Success.” I was not familiar with the book’s author, Matt Bell, but he has a new fan now! It is said, “your misery becomes your ministry” and I believe Matt is an example of that as he begins the book with a relatable testimony that explains how he became an authority on the subject.
I appreciated practical aspects of an informative book such as this in terms of providing an outline of what the reader will study as they read, along with end-of-chapter summary points and questions to consider/tasks to perform. In addition, Matt offers fill in the blank worksheets and forms which are effective tools for the audience to utilize.
I was specifically encouraged by all the helpful advice about ways to manage our finances. It was written in terms that are easy to comprehend, and even provided interesting perspectives on how to think about, and be in control of, money. Added to basic, yet sound, money management lessons is back-up from Scripture which offers further evidence of how God intended us to be financially responsible.
This is a book that everyone can benefit from, but particularly teenagers and young adults, as it gives important life lessons that may help younger readers prevent financial crisis from happening to them. For those who may already be suffering financial woes, Matt’s book can help!

Money Purpose Joy
Money, Purpose, Joy, Matt Bell
A golfer with money problems, now that I can relate to!
I really enjoyed Matt Bell's practical and down to earth approach to solving personal financial dilemmas. He offers wisdom from God's word, practical advice, good tools and helps online (and also a handy workbook, for an extra cost). I was particularly challenged by his method for handling debt. Also at the end of every chapter the author offers a summary of the content included in the previous chapter along with a couple practical suggestions or action steps for applying the concepts mentioned in the chapter.
The action steps are very do-able. They are based on just one or two easy ideas that can count up to real change. They can be implemented with just a few easy adjustments to lifestyle.
Matt Bell also does an analysis of the type of spending / saving we tend to do that really helps us understand the differences or tensions that can come up in marriages or families. Are you a "Shopper", "Stockpiler" or a "Builder"? The answer to this can help with many family stresses.
Also the book includes several spending guides to give you an idea of how you are doing in conjunction to spending on housing, groceries, giving, saving, eating out etc. These are inline with healthy lifestyles. I found them encouraging to my values and reasonable to make changes.
In the age when there are so many "Success Stories" in relation to Money Management (Dave Ramsey, Crown, Generous Giving, etc) it was encouraging to read stories of success that have been born out of weakness & struggle.

Simple, Straighforward, Practicle!
This book is a perfect example of balance. What Matt Bell strives to teach through this book is how to manage your personal finances, but he does so in a way that also changes and strengthens the framework of why you manage your finances. He does a good job taking the Biblical principle of stewardship and bringing it into a 21st century context. The practical steps at the end of each chapter set up an easy process to walk through in your own personal context and speed. There is freedom in this approach Matt has crafted to allow the reader to not be tied down to specific 1-10 steps, but instead better understand the reasoning behind managing finances and walking down a broader path Matt has laid out. As a result the second two thirds of the title, “Purpose” and “Joy,” are clearly taught and incorporated into this book on financial stewardship. This book is a great place to start for those seeking to take control of their money, and as a result their lives.
