Beneficial yet not my first choice for leading a group Bible Study
I was initially excited to receive this book as an aid to my own personal devotional time. As a busy homeschooling mother of five I frequently change up my Bible Study routine a bit to keep me motivated. While I did uncover some inspiring and motivating thoughts and did find this book beneficial, I also found this book co-authored by six women somewhat disjointed and uneven.
The General Editor of this Bible Study, Diane Strack, provides an inspiring introduction to this study. She further presents a compelling call to "Present Our Bodies" to the Lord, based on Romans 12:1. The six contributing authors share a variety of women from the Bible as well as more contemporary Christian women. The six women studied include Deborah (judge), Mary (mother of Jesus), Monica (mother of Augustine), Sarah Edwards (wife of the pastor-theologian Jonathan), Lottie Moon (missionary) and Shirley Lindsay (a pastor's wife). Emphases covered include courage, faith, prayer, compassion and obedience, and personal evangelism.
Each chapter gives an introductory "Culture and Background" section, followed by 3 or 4 "Consider This" (short sections of questions for discussion or thought) as well as other sections, possibly including discussion sections and presentation sections. So, although each chapter does have some commonality in its approach, overall these individual chapters written by six individual women simply do not flow well together.
As a personal Bible Study aid as I used this book, it was helpful; yet because these chapters do not flow well together as they simply do not have the same format, I would hesitate to use this as a group Bible Study. My own personal experience has shown me that sometimes it takes a couple of weeks for women to grow accustomed to the presentation of a new Bible Study author or book. The inconsistent format in this Bible Study might prove more of a hindrance than a help.

Wonderful Bible Study
I really enjoyed reading through this Bible study. If you're wanting to get to know more about women who have surrendered to God's will and changed the world, this is an excellent study.
Each chapter is about a different influential woman who, through God's power, quietly influenced change in the world. The book covers the lives of Deborah, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, Monica, Sarah Edwards, Lottie Moon, Shirley Lindsay.
Each chapter starts with a 'Culture and Background' section to give the reader a short history. There are 'Consider This' sections interspersed throughout each chapter which will give you questions to think about or journal about.
Each chapter is fairly short, so this study is excellentfor those of us who have limited time. This would be a perfect study for a busy mom's group!
This is an excellent study, whether using it with a group or personally. Hopefully, it will inspire you to be a quiet influence of your own and make a change in the world!

More a collection of essays than a Biblestudy
I was sort of disappointed in Quiet Influence. The book purports to be a Biblestudy, but is actually a book of six essays by different authors about women. I couldn't really find a connecting theme between the women (Deborah and Mary from the Bible, Sarah Edwards, Lottie Moon and Shirley Lindsay) other than that they were all believers in God. I thought the chapter on Mary had some good points that could be extrapolated into a Bible study if you were really desperate to do a Bible study from out of this book. I also found it interesting that the author who wrote about Sarah Edwards focused on her hospitality as the source of her influence, rather than her raising of 11 children who went on to have an inordinate influence on nearly every aspect of life in the United States for generations. That is not to downplay Sarah Edwards' hospitality, but if you're really interested in her, I suggest you read Marriage to a Difficult Man: The Uncommon Union of Jonathan & Sarah Edwards instead.

Could Be Better
I found this book to be complicated and chaotic, from the very beginning. The title alone confused me: is it called Quiet Influence: The Romans 12:1 Woman, Quiet Influence: A 6-week Bible Study or Quiet Influence? With 6 different authors I was also unable to locate the book on Amazon by author name. After this confusion, I started reading the book searching for a general theme and appreciated the Romans 12:1 concept that each woman has an intense desire to please God. This is demonstrated well in each chapter of the book. Six women are portrayed for their desire to please God, and only the first two are from the pages of scripture: Deborah and Mary. The book inappropriately excluded Esther-a Romans 12:1 woman! Monica, Shirley, Sarah Edwards and Lottie were each given a chapter in the "6-week Bible study." Having read more than 24 different Bible studies written for women, I can say that this book should not be used as a Bible study. Sadly, I do not recommend the book in its current format.It would be better with one title, 3 authors instead of 6, and 6 women from the Bible representing the Romans 12:1 status.

A Great Bible Study for Women
This Bible study for women encourages us to be "Romans 12:1 women." To learn how to do this, we must first know what this passage of scripture says. "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." (NKJV)
The book is divided into 6 chapters, each about a different woman and each written by a different author. As I read each chapter, I noticed how these women were all so different. I think we often feel like we aren't as important or influential for God as other women. It was encouraging for me to see how completely different each of these women was. It helped me to realize that I don't have to strive to be like anyone else to be a witness. Instead, I just must allow God to make me into the woman He wants me to be.
The women in the book are Deborah, from the book of Judges in the Old Testament; Mary, the mother of Jesus; Monica, the mother of Saint Augustine; Sarah Edwards, the wife of evangelist Jonathan Edwards; Lottie Moon, missionary supporter and missionary; and Shirley Lindsay, pastor's wife and personal evangelist. Even though these women were so different from each other, they had one very important thing in common. Each woman dedicated herself completely to serving God and to telling others about Him. The author of each chapter described the basic information about the woman featured in that chapter including her family life and a little about the culture of her day. This information allowed me to more clearly understand that these were "regular" women with families and responsibilities just like most of us have. They faced many of the same duties and pressures that we face today, yet they didn't give up. The didn't use those things as excuses either. They sincerely and whole-heartedly devoted themselves to serving God with their whole lives, and they allowed God to direct their efforts.
Often when I finish reading a book or Bible study, I will give the book to someone else who might enjoy reading it. Not so this time, though! In fact, I am going to read it over again and study it more in-depth. This Bible study, more than any other I remember reading and studying, has encouraged me to see that even though I'm just a "regular" wife and mom, God can use me. If you would like some encouragement and some "real life" examples of ordinary women who were used by God in extraordinary ways, then you will enjoy this Bible study as much as I did.
