Enjoyed this Bible Study

This book is fairly short -- 11 chapters and just over 100 pages. A chapter per week was a really nice pace for my life. As an example of how this book works, chapter 7, titled The Law of Love opens with John 15:12 and a quote from Lewis Sperry Chafer about the Mosaic system and Christ's love. There is a paragraph by Cynthia Heald introducing the topic, followed by a series of 8 questions, with scripture and quotes from people like John Piper woven in. Some of the questions are fairly easy to answer. Most require some thinking and prayer. The final section of each chapter is the "Author's Reflection" where she uses a variety of scenarios to illustrate the point of the chapter. This chapter hit me particularly, as she is reflecting on why it is so hard to sincerely love others, unconditionally. There is always a final question, and that is one that requires soul searching, and pouring your heart out to God. And the chapter ends with a suggested scripture memory, that of John 15:12. I love these books. Doing a chapter per week is something I can add to my already very busy day, as I can sit down to read and answer a question or two, or at least start thinking about them, in just a few minutes. All I promised was a fair review, and the statements above represent my opinions.

A great Bible study

I recently had the opportunity to review a new Bible study book by Cynthia Heald, Becoming a Woman of Grace (published by NavPress). This is a great little Bible study tool. It's not very long, just 11 chapters, each only about 6 or 7 pages in length. But there is so much wisdom packed into this little book. Chapters include: "Set Free by Grace", "Growing in Grace", and "Becoming a Gracious Woman", among others. Each chapter is introduced with a bible scripture and a quote from a Christian author, then is followed by a number of questions on the topic of the chapter. Each question is brief and contains a bible scripture to look up and consider. I've read many, many Bible study books in my adult life, and this one is definitely one of my favorites. I especially like the fact that this study is relatively simple and short (a must-have for my busy Mom life), but it encouraged me to really dig into my Bible and consider what the scriptures have to say on a topic, not just read what someone else thinks about the scriptures. I highly recommend this book as a great way to start your new year. You will be changed by it in the best possible way! (I received a copy of this book from NavPress for review, but was not compensated and all opinions are mine alone!)
