The Spirit told Philip, \u201cClimb into the chariot.\u201d Running up alongside, Philip heard the eunuch reading Isaiah and asked, \u201cDo you understand what you\u2019re reading?\u201d He answered, \u201cHow can I without some help?\u201d and invited Philip into the chariot with him.\u00a0 (Acts 8: 29-31 MSG)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

How many times have you been in a certain setting \u2013 perhaps discussing a plot line to a bestselling novel or the story line to a particular movie? Remember that moment when the one with whom you are engaged in conversation illuminates the point and the proverbial light bulb goes off? You offer up a euphoric \u201cI get it!\u201d Suddenly everything has come together \u2013 the characters, the scenes, and the dialog. It makes total sense. And it was just that simple clarification that made all the difference.<\/strong>
\nDiscipleship is like that. It often requires being available to the Holy Spirit. Paying careful attention to that quiet little nudge and responding favorably. Being with that grieving individual and providing sparse words of comfort. Interacting with your neighbor who is stumped by Christians. Or your colleague at work who is mystified by the Bible, frightened by the genealogies.
\nMay we take a cue from Philip and be willing to be chariot climbers<\/strong>. To say \u201cyes\u201d to the Spirit. To provide help to those who seek it. Take note: it won\u2019t be without its demands on your time. But what a gift to help someone understand what following Jesus is all about.
