The formula asks four questions based on three verses in 1 Corinthians. In <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navpress.com\/p\/the-pursuit-of-holiness\/9781576839324\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Pursuit of Holiness<\/a><\/em> Jerry goes in depth on this formula and how important discernment is for pursuing holiness. Here is that Question Formula:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2019Everything is permissible for me\u2019 \u2013 but not everything is beneficial<br \/>\n(I Cor. 6:12).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Question 1:<\/strong> Is it helpful\u2014physically, spiritually, and mentally?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2019Everything is permissible for me\u2019\u2014but I will not be mastered by anything<br \/>\n(1 Cor. 6:12).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Question 2:<\/strong> Does it bring me under its power?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to all into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall<br \/>\n(1 Cor. 8:13).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Question 3:<\/strong>\u00a0 Does it hurt others?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God<br \/>\n(1 Cor. 10:31).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Question 4:<\/strong>\u00a0 Does it glorify God?<br \/>\nAs simple as this formula may appear, it is powerful in developing conviction\u2014if we are willing to use it.\u00a0 These questions can get rather searching.\u00a0 But they must be asked if we are to pursue holiness as a total way of life.<br \/>\nRun in such a way as to get the prize.\u00a0 1 Corinthians 9:24<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.navpress.com\/p\/the-pursuit-of-holiness\/9781631466397\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/files.tyndale.com\/thpdata\/images--covers\/HiResJPG\/978-1-63146-639-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"401\" \/> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navpress.com\/p\/the-pursuit-of-holiness-small-group-curriculum\/9781615215843\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/files.tyndale.com\/thpdata\/images--covers\/HiResJPG\/978-1-61521-584-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"401\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Years ago a friend of Jerry Bridges gave him a formula to know right from wrong.
