And what my baby wants, my baby gets. So I researched, studied&#8230; and realized that these tables are super pricey.<br \/>\nSo I came up with a solution.<br \/>\n\u201cBabe, I\u2019m going to make you a farm table,\u201d I said enthusiastically.<br \/>\n\u201cHmmm,\u201d she responded.<br \/>\n\u201cYou don\u2019t need to say a thing. You\u2019re welcome,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>The schematics were in my head. About a week before Thanksgiving, I went to Lowe\u2019s and purchased four ten-foot-long one-inch by twelve-inch boards and a couple four-foot-long one by fours. No saw cuts necessary. All it took were a few screws and a drill and shazam\u2014Amy had a twelve-foot farm table to set on top of our existing table. It\u2019s one huge table leaf. Deep down, Amy was impressed. She had her farm table for ninety dollars. All she needed were two overlapping tablecloths to hide the roughness and no one would know the difference.<br \/>\nOne reason I was excited to make the farm table, other than the fact that I served my wife, was <strong>that it eliminates the kids\u2019 table.<\/strong> Now everyone is around the same table. We can minister to our guests without splitting everyone up.<br \/>\nThe table is a place where community happens. In Acts 2:46-47, we read that the home was central to the launch and expansion of the first century church:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Many different languages and backgrounds were present when the church started in the first century. How do you bring diverse people together? The answer is simple: food. As we read in Acts 5, \u201cDay after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah\u201d (verse 42). <strong>The message is Jesus, and the tool is the table.<\/strong><br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2529\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2529\" style=\"width: 286px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navpress.com\/p\/come-to-the-family-table\/9781631463662?utm_source=Disciplemaker&amp;utm_medium=Get%20Rid%20of%20the%20Kids%20Table&amp;utm_campaign=Come%20to%20the%20Family%20Table\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.navpress.com\/sites\/thedisciplemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/ComeToFamilyTable_3D-829x1024.png\" alt=\"ComeToFamilyTable\" width=\"296\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2529\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click the book to read chapter 1 for free.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nThe table is still the place where we bring uncommon people together. God uses the home and our table to bring different backgrounds together, whether rich or poor, conservative or liberal, regardless of religion or past or present. We are all about inviting people to church, but what about inviting people into our homes? <strong>Around the dinner table walls come down.<\/strong> This is the beauty of hospitality.
