The Life-Saving Act of Remembering<\/h2>\n

I just got home to Kodiak last night from visiting all my children. (We left when there were just 1,000 COVID-19 cases in the U.S. The world changed in a single week.) The airports and planes were empty. \u00a0It was eerie. I felt like a character in the Left Behind series. What? Everyone got raptured away to a virus-free afterlife and I\u2019m left behind?<\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019m now in a 2 week strict quarantine in my house in Kodiak, along with my husband and two sons. We hope we make it out alive\u2014-and still loving one another.<\/p>\n

Last week, in my blog I encouraged everyone to lament their losses, as so many people in the Bible did. And you did. Thank you for sharing your lives and your stories.<\/a><\/strong> I will not soon forget them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Today, I want to encourage you another way: in the life-saving act of remembering.<\/p>\n

Why do we need to remember these days? The present we\u2019re living will soon be past, and what will remain of these days If we\u2019re not taking notes, however hurried and small?<\/p>\n

I urge this not just because I\u2019m a writer. It\u2019s mostly God\u2019s idea.<\/p>\n

Two Time God Calls His People to Remember<\/h2>\n

The Hebrew people are just about to enter the land God has promised them\u2014a new life and land where milk and honey flowed from every ravine! So much anticipation! Forty years of waiting! But they aren’t yet ready to cross the threshold. They can’t enter without this:<\/p>\n

However, be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you don’t forget the things which you have seen with your own eyes. Don’t let them fade from your memory as long as you live. Teach them to your children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n
