 How GOD Fathers Us
Scripture frequently portrays God as a loving Father who is actively involved in our lives. The following passages describe some of the many ways He demonstrates His love.
He Commits to us.
“Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.”  —Ps. 27:10
He supplies our needs.
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. . . . your heavenly Father knows that you need [these things]. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  —Mt. 6:25,32-33
He champions us.
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.”  —Ps. 68:5
He trains us.
“The LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”  —Prov. 3:12
He knows our troubles.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the god of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.”  —2 Cor. 1:3-4
He feels for us.
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.”  —Ps. 103:13-14
He carries us.
“The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the desert. there you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”  —Dt. 1:30-31
He encourages us.
“May . . . God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement. And good hope, encourage your hearts.  —2 Thess 2:16-17
He provides us with an identity.
“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.”  —Eph. 3:14-15
He promises us a rich inheritance.
“So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.”  —Gal. 4:7
