Why Memorize Scripture?

Share this:

The Bible has much to say about the power of God’s Word in helping us grow and stand against temptation.  In fact, Jesus quoted scripture when Satan tempted him in the desert.  Scripture is called the Sword of the Sprit in Ephesians 6:17 and is the one piece of the believer’s armor that has both an offensive and defensive role.  Scripture memorization is a spiritual tool we can use to help us prepare for battle and to take our stand against the enemy.  And, as we memorize and meditate on scripture, we will find we prosper and succeed.
“How can a young man make his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.”
Psalm 119:9,11

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates and divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow; and judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
Joshua 1:8

  1. I am very grateful for the Navigators’ work to promote Bible memorization.
The Topical Memory Systems are helpful indeed, and can easily be used with the Bible memory app Remember Me.
