Journey to Free, Week Two: I Abide in Jesus Not Because I Can, but Because I Must

Yes, because I’m in love with him, but also because without his love, I don’t just struggle; I begin to devolve. Without the safety, power, and comfort of his love, my personal version of the flesh—shame, anger, a bullying spirit, jaded skepticism, and emotional darkness—begins to creep in. For me, intimacy with God and his Son Jesus isn’t an option, a casual choice I can make if I’m in the right spiritual mood. Without connecting daily, moment by moment with Jesus and his love for me, I’m literally undone.

For me, abiding isn’t primarily about discipline but desperation.
